Therapists’ Feedback
  • "This was a very good course. Judy Colditz presented the material in an organized manner that gave me a thorough understanding of finger anatomy. I finally was able to piece it all together, when before I was still a little confused because of the complexity of the finger. I liked that she repeated and reviewed the information several times before moving on to the next section. The illustrations and cadaver examples were great. I feel that I can now better explain the anatomy to patients."

Learning Outcomes/Course Objectives

Upon review of the video, completion of the self-study exercises, and review of the self-study questions, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the anatomical components of the dorsal apparatus of the finger.
  • Draw the primary components of the dorsal apparatus on a bone outline.
  • Identify the route of the extensor digitorum communis and its 4 insertions within the dorsal apparatus.
  • Draw the dorsal and volar interosseous muscles on an outline of the hand bones and label the muscles by name.
  • Draw two bellies of the dorsal interosseous muscles on an outline of the hand bones and label the bellies, identifying origins and insertions.
  • Draw the volar interosseous muscles on an outline of the hand bones indication the origin and insertion for each muscle.
  • Draw all interosseous muscles of the hand and indentify the usual insertions of each muscle.
  • Draw the lumbrical muscles on a bone outline, indicating both the origins and insertions of the muscles.
  • State 5 differences and 2 similarities between the interosseous and lumbrical muscles.
  • Schematically draw the five intrinsic muscles that move the little finger and include origins and insertions fo these muscles.
  • Draw the location of the 3 important retinacular structures of the dorsal apparatus on an outline of the hand bones.
  • Draw the location of the origins and insertions fo the flexor digitorum profundus and flexor digitorum superficialis muscles.
  • Draw the location of the annular and cruciate pulleys within the finger.
  • Answer questions related to muscle fiber length, tension index, and work capacity of the five finger muscles.
